Litter Box Setup for 9 Cats

I’m often asked how I handle the litterboxes with nine cats. Dealing with the boxes is no one’s favorite chore, but we’ve found a way to manage them fairly easily. Cats have a variety of preferences when it comes to box size and entry, and displeasing your cat in this area can lead to inappropriate elimination. Mod Cat makes a great extra jumbo box that our cats seem to love and I highly recommend, with both side and top entry options.

When it comes to litter, I feel like I’ve tried them ALL. I stay away from chemical laden and dusty litters (they aren’t good for the lungs), and have landed on Naturally Fresh Walnut Shell substrate for our gang. Feline Pine, Yesterday’s News and World’s Best are other great brands to try that are good for your cat, your home and the environment.

Cleanup: We could not deal with the boxes without Nature’s Miracle Advanced enzymatic cleaner. This spray produces enzymes when it comes into contact with cat urine that help to eliminate smells and stains. We use it in conjunction with a simple blacklight flashlight when cleaning the boxes, to locate any stains we might have missed.

Make sure to scoop boxes DAILY, and do a full dump and fill at least once a week!
